Ted: Welcome back! Today we're tackling one of the most common complaints I hear: leash pulling. I'm here with Max, a 2-year-old Lab who's never learned to walk nicely on leash.

The Problem
Most dogs pull because it works—they get where they want to go faster. We need to teach them that pulling gets them nowhere, while walking nicely gets them everywhere.

The Technique: Be a Tree
When your dog pulls, immediately stop walking. Don't yank back, don't say anything—just plant your feet and wait. The moment there's slack in the leash, even if they just turn to look at you, start walking again.

Mark and Reward Position
Watch how I reward Max every few steps when he's in the correct position—by my side with a loose leash. I'm using both treats and verbal praise to make this position the most rewarding place to be.

Direction Changes
Here's a pro tip: change direction frequently. When your dog starts pulling, do a 180 and walk the other way. This teaches them to pay attention to you rather than following their nose.

Consistency is Everything
You can see Max is already making progress, but here's the critical part: you must be consistent. Every single walk must follow these rules, or you're reinforcing pulling intermittently, which makes it even stronger.

Final Thoughts
Remember, your dog didn't learn to pull overnight, and they won't learn to walk nicely overnight either. Be patient, be consistent, and celebrate small victories.
